Bra shopping is a lot like dating. You want to find something that fits, flatters, and makes you feel confident in your skin. Like any relationship, the first date is usually a little nerve-wracking. But it’s also exciting because you never know what could happen next.
There is no such thing as “normal” when it comes to breasts. Every boob has its own unique size and shape. That means you should always trust your instincts when it comes to bras and bathing suits. The right fit will make you feel amazing—and if you have any questions, we’re happy to help!
The first step in fit is to understand how a bra should fit. A properly fitting bra will do the following:
1. Should comfortably encircle the body, not pinch or gap in any area.
2. The center gore (the section between the cups) should lie flat against the chest, not sit on top of breast tissue or “point” outward.
3. The shoulder straps should stay close to the body with no more than a thumb’s width between your body and strap at the front of your shoulder (this is especially true if you are petite).
4. The band should lay flat against your torso, centered over your breastbone and not riding up at the back.
5. The underwire should rest on your ribcage, not on breast tissue or underneath it (if wearing an underwire-free bra).
6. Cups should completely contain each breast without overflowing or gaping at top or sides.
